These cards were inspired by this pin. This idea comes from the Scrapojapon blog. This blog isn't in English, but the card ideas are well photographed.
I love how simple this layout idea was and have created two variations for this post. There will be more to come, as it's a great scrap busting idea. I started the first card layout with a similar color pallet to that of the inspiration pin - kraft card base, pale blue banner and white snowflake.
The banners were cut using the Fishtail Banner stitched die from Sunny Studio and then mounted onto the kraft card panel before cutting each with the largest of the stitched rectangles from the Simon Says Stamp set of dies. This gave the effect of stitching on the top and bottom of the banner. I cut the snowflake die from white cardstock. I picked this die up on vacation last year and have no idea who makes it, but any large snowflake die would work.
Once I adhered the banner and cut the card panel, I stamped the sentiment in white Hero Arts Unicorn Pigment Ink. This is one of the best white inks I've found. It works best on pale colors of cardstock for the best impression.
Next, comes the gluing of the snowflakes and the gems. I use Range Multi Medium Matte for my "wet gluing" needs. I used this adhesive for both the snowflake and the gems. I use an acrylic block to weight down the snowflake while the glue dries. This just takes a minute or two, as the Multi Medium dries fairly quickly. Once the snowflake was dry, the kraft panels were added to a white card base.
I completed the card with a cluster of gems to add some sparkle to my snowflakes. I use a gem picker to add each gem to small drops of Multi Medium in the center of each snowflake.
Variation is the name of the game when making multiple cards. I swapped out the blue banner for red and the snowflake for the reindeer heads. Following the same method with the banner and the kraft panel before adding it to the white card base.
I considered gems for the nose before settling on red Tonic Nuvo Drops. I added the reindeer head to the red banner and set the panels aside while I created the red noses.
I was nervous about messing up the card once I was this far, as I don't own the die for these reindeer and can't easily fix any mistakes. This is where I created my own "enamel" dots. I put three drops of the red Nuvo Drops onto a piece of acetate and set them aside to dry for 24 hours.
Once the drops were dry I popped them off the acetate and a glued them in place to create a cute little Rudolf for my card front.
That's how easy it is to create multiple cards from one idea. I encourage you to try this idea to build your holiday cards this year.
